The Access ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) for Migrant Youth (AEMY) course at Bankstown College of TAFE is described. The course targets young, recently arrived migrants whose education has been disrupted by civil unrest or war in their homelands. AEMY students have special needs as they are often traumatised by their experience of civil unrest and their basic education and language skills are not sufficient to participate in mainstream ESOL classes. The course uses practical, learner-centred activities to develop language skills. Show less
